As Veterans, we separate from the military with a variety of disabilities, many of which cannot be seen. This can make returning to civilian life extremely frustrating because most individuals cannot see or understand the pain we go through on a daily basis. As military members we have been trained not to complain and to keep moving forward, which makes asking for help or looking for support difficult. We lose about 22 of our brothers and sisters to suicide each day because of the loss of hope for a better future. We are broken down and reprogrammed when we start our military careers, but we are never retrained for returning to the world around us. Veterans Rescue believes 22 losses a day is 22 too many and the reason we started our program. We are here to bring Veterans together, not only with others in a similar situation, but also with mustangs and shelter dogs who have suffered their own type of traumas. By offering a safe haven, one without judgment, we feel we are able to give a reason for getting out of bed each day and to keep moving forward because life can get better.
